How we checked these prices

On 7 October 2026 we opened the 12Go page of 20 routes and read every offer listed for a departure on Saturday 10 October 2026: operator, vehicle, scheduled duration and price. Prices are shown per adult, taxes included, in euros.

For each route we give two figures: the cheapest fare and the typical fare (the median of all bus and minivan offers that day — half the departures cost less, half cost more). Private taxis and flights are listed separately.

Keep in mind that fares move with the date, the class of vehicle and how early you book. Use these figures as a reliable order of magnitude, then check the exact price for your own date before you pay.

Boats to Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem

Speedboats leave from Sihanoukville. You can also buy a single ticket combining the bus from Phnom Penh and the boat.

Sihanoukville → Koh Rong €15.10 €16.31 45 to 65 min 43 boats
Sihanoukville → Koh Rong Samloem €15.10 €16.31 40 to 70 min 28 boats
Phnom Penh → Koh Rong (bus + boat) €22.58 €29.32 about 5 h 32 combined tickets

The four boat companies (GTVC Speedboat, Island Speed Ferry, Romny Tour Express and Vireak Buntham Speed Ferry) charge almost the same fare — between €15.10 and €16.44 — so choose by departure time and pier rather than by price.

What makes a ticket cheaper or more expensive

The vehicle

15-seat minivans are usually the cheapest option: Phnom Penh → Kampot starts at €5.78 with Kimseng Express. Full-size coaches and sleeper buses cost more — Saly VIP, which runs 34-berth sleepers to Siem Reap, charged €15.58 to €21.11.

The company

On Phnom Penh → Siem Reap, Capitol started at €8.56 while Giant Ibis — the most-reviewed company on 12Go — charged €15.10 to €19.63. Neither is "wrong": you pay for the vehicle, the terminal and the service level.

Day or night

On long routes such as Siem Reap → Sihanoukville (about 10 hours), many departures are night buses with berths: €24 to €30 with Saly VIP, Trans Passion, Larryta or Giant Ibis. The fare is higher, but you save a night of accommodation.

Private car instead of bus

A private car from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap started at €62 on 12Go. Split between three travellers, that is about €21 each — close to a premium bus seat, door to door.

Flying

Phnom Penh → Siem Reap flights started at €70.88 (about 1 h 05 in the air). The bus is far cheaper; flying only makes sense if you are very short on time.

Combined tickets

Bus + boat tickets from Phnom Penh to Koh Rong started at €22.58 — less than buying the cheapest bus to Sihanoukville (€11.46) and the cheapest boat (€15.10) separately (€26.56).

7 tips to pay the right price

  1. Compare vehicles, not only companies. The same operator often sells a minivan and a coach at different prices — Larryta, for example, runs vans, 45-seat coaches and sleeper buses on Phnom Penh → Siem Reap.
  2. Check the departure point. Cambodia has no single central bus station: Capitol leaves from Orussey Market in Phnom Penh, Giant Ibis and Larryta from stations named after the company. Add the tuk-tuk ride to your budget.
  3. Use night buses on long routes. On Siem Reap → Sihanoukville (about 10 hours) a berth saves you a night of accommodation.
  4. Going to the islands? Look at combined tickets. Bus + boat from Phnom Penh to Koh Rong started at €22.58, cheaper than the two cheapest tickets bought separately.
  5. Read the price correctly. On 12Go the fare is shown per adult, taxes included.
  6. Check your own date. Our figures are for one departure day; fares change with the date and the remaining seats.
  7. Travelling as a group of 3 or 4? Compare with a private car (from €62 Phnom Penh → Siem Reap) — split, it can cost about the same as a premium bus seat.
