How we compared the companies

The ratings below are the average score out of 5 shown on each company's 12Go page, based on reviews left by travellers who booked and took the trip. We read them on 7 October 2026. We also looked at the number of reviews: a 4.4 based on 2,000 reviews tells you much more than a 5.0 based on two, so we left out companies with only a handful of reviews.

Routes, vehicles and fares come from the 12Go schedules for a departure on 10 October 2026. We have no commercial link with any bus company: we earn a commission when you book on 12Go, whichever operator you choose.

Our take, company by company

Giant Ibis Transport — the safe bet

By far the most-reviewed company on 12Go (8,914 reviews) with a steady 4.5/5. Its buses leave from its own stations in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, and it runs luxury coaches, VIP seats and sleeper buses. It is priced above average (€15.10–19.63 on Phnom Penh → Siem Reap, against a typical €15.59). Best for a first trip, or if comfort matters more than a few euros. Official website: giantibis.com.

Airbus — top-rated on the south coast

The highest score among companies with hundreds of reviews: 4.7/5 on 832 reviews. It runs 35- and 36-seat coaches from Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville, Kep and Koh Kong, and a Siem Reap → Pakse service to Laos. A strong choice for the coast.

Larryta — the versatile one

Rated 4.6/5 (387 reviews). On the main axes it offers 15-seat vans, 45-seat coaches and night or sleeper buses, at €13.23–16.31 on Phnom Penh → Siem Reap. Handy when you want to choose between a fast van and a full-size bus with the same company.

Vireak Buntham Express — the widest network

The company present on the most routes in our sample — from Siem Reap and the coast to Kratie, Mondulkiri and Koh Kong. Its 4.1/5 on 2,305 reviews is solid but below the leaders. It runs "Hotel Bus" night services with berths, and also operates a speed ferry to the islands (4.0/5, 321 reviews). Official website: vireakbuntham.com.

Cambolink21 Express — the most departures

On 10 October 2026 it listed 79 departures from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap and 129 to Battambang — more than anyone else. Mostly minivans, rated 4.4/5 (137 reviews). Useful when you need a precise departure time.

Capitol — the budget pick

The cheapest fares we found on the big routes: from €8.56 Phnom Penh → Siem Reap and €8.10 to Battambang. Rated 4.4/5 (136 reviews). In Phnom Penh it departs from Orussey Market.

Kimseng & Ekareach — south-coast minivans

The two specialists of Phnom Penh → Kampot: Kimseng Express (34 departures, from €5.78, 4.4/5 on 47 reviews) and Ekareach Express (27 departures, €8.84, 4.3/5 on 435 reviews). Ekareach also serves Kep and Kampot → Sihanoukville. Official websites: kimsengexpress.com and ekareachexpress.com.

Saly VIP & Chan Moly Roth — the lowest scores

The two lowest ratings in our sample: Saly VIP 3.9/5 (252 reviews), which runs 34-berth sleepers, and Chan Moly Roth 3.3/5 (174 reviews). Not necessarily to avoid, but on the same routes better-rated companies are available at similar prices.

Boat companies to Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem

All four leave from Sihanoukville. Figures for Sihanoukville → Koh Rong on 10 October 2026.

What travellers mention in recent reviews

We read the latest 12Go reviews for Phnom Penh → Siem Reap, the busiest route in the country (rated 4.5/5 on 3,373 reviews). A few themes come back:

  • On the positive side: clean and spacious buses, friendly crews, and on Giant Ibis, Wi-Fi and power sockets on board.
  • Pick-up rounds and stops: some minivan services spend time collecting passengers around the city before leaving and stop along the way, which can add up to two hours to the trip.
  • Vehicle swaps: a few travellers report being moved to another bus than the one booked, for example after an air-conditioning failure.

Our advice: if arrival time matters (a connection, a sunset at Angkor), prefer a company with a high rating and many reviews, and avoid the very last departure of the day.

How to choose your company in 5 checks

  1. Rating and number of reviews together. A 4.4 on 2,000 reviews is more reliable than a 5.0 on two.
  2. The vehicle class. "Van 15pax", "Seater 45", "Sleeper" or "Hotel Bus": the class changes comfort, speed and price more than the brand does.
  3. The departure point. Each company has its own station or office — check it on your ticket.
  4. Day or night. On 6- to 10-hour routes, a sleeper berth can replace a night of accommodation.
  5. The latest reviews of your route. They are shown on each route page of 12Go and tell you how the service is running now.

There is no single best company. Giant Ibis is the most reviewed (4.5/5 on 8,914 reviews on 12Go), Airbus has the highest score among well-reviewed companies (4.7/5 on 832) and Larryta follows closely (4.6/5 on 387). Choose according to your route and the vehicle you prefer.
Is Giant Ibis worth the higher price?
If comfort and predictability matter to you, usually yes: it combines a high rating with by far the largest number of reviews, its own stations and a range of luxury, VIP and sleeper buses. On Phnom Penh → Siem Reap it cost €15.10–19.63 in October 2026, a few euros above the typical fare.
Which companies run night buses?
In October 2026, night or sleeper services were listed on 12Go by Giant Ibis, Larryta, Vireak Buntham ("Hotel Bus"), Saly VIP, Cambolink21, Capitol, Go Ho Travel and Trans Passion, mainly between Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville.
Which boat company should I take to Koh Rong?

Where do these ratings come from?
From each company's page on 12Go, where travellers who booked a trip can leave a review. We read them on 7 October 2026; they change over time as new reviews are added.
